According to Fraport, Ljubljana Airport has seen a significant recovery in traffic. The company attributes this mainly to the improved connectivity of the airport and the resumption of flight connections that were temporarily suspended due to the bankruptcy of former Slovenian flag carrier Adria Airways in the autumn of 2019 and the Covid-19 pandemic.

The airport saw passenger numbers rose to just under 1.3 million last year, after the figure only reached 970,000 in 2022. This brings Ljubljana Airport closer to the pre-pandemic figure of 1.7 million passengers, recorded in 2019.

For the Fraport Group, which also operates Germany's main aviation hub at Frankfurt Airport, 2023 was a record year in terms of revenue and operating profits, the German press agency dpa reported.

"The driver was a continued recovery in passenger numbers - particularly at the Fraport Group's airports outside Germany," the company said as revenue rose by 25% to EUR 4 billion and EBITDA by 17% to EUR 1.2 billion.
