Minister announces EUR 1.2 million support for minority in Hungary

Szentgotthard, 23 May - Economy Minister Matjaž Han visited the Slovenian minority in Hungary on Tuesday, pledging support for businesses in the area populated by the community. Within a month the ministry will publish two calls for applications, worth a combined EUR 1.168 million.

Han started his visit to Szentgotthard with a meeting with minority representatives, the mayors of local communities in the Raba Valley and business representatives.

He said after the meeting that Slovenia's contribution to the local business and tourism development was appreciated and Slovenia would continue to provide support.

He signed an agreement with the Alliance of Slovenians in Hungary on implementation and funding of tourist destinations in the area populated by the Slovenian minority.

Moreover, the Ministry of Economy, Tourism and Sport will provide nearly EUR 1.2 million for business and tourism development to the minority and another EUR 300,000 for the renovation of the minority's centre, the Slovenian Hall.

Soon, a public call will be published for micro, small and medium-sized companies worth EUR 488,000 and in June a EUR 680,000 call will be published for incentives to tourism and secondary activities for the area populated by the Slovenian minority.

Han was accompanied on his trip by Dejan Židan and Vesna Humar, state secretaries at the ministries of economy and Slovenians abroad.
