Carthago opening new plant Ormož

Ormož, 25 March - The German-owned motorhome maker Carthago is about to complete a second production location in Slovenia. The facility in Ormož is slated to open on 15 April and will initially put out about 40 campervans a week. It will join the Odranci location further to the north-east.

The company said at first 170 workers will be employed in Odranci starting from May. Initially about 100 of almost 800 staff employed at the Odranci plant will be transferred there along with 70 new employees, who have been undergoing training. When production is at full capacity in 2024, some 300 jobs are planned there.

The investment in the new plant was initially valued at EUR 45 million but CEO Sandra Županec said it would likely rise to around EUR 50 million due to higher prices on construction material.

Carthago will get an EUR 6 million government incentive for the investment. The new plant will improve the jobs situation in Ormož after Italian eyewear maker Safilo closed its operation there.

The company will assemble smaller Malibu campervans in Ormož, while production of larger vehicles will continue in Odranci.

Production volume is to exceed 3,000 vehicles in 2024 with a further 15% increase in volume planned in 2025 and a 17% increase in sales revenue. Value added per employee is to double, the government said when approving the incentive in May 2022.
