DELO

Third Development Axis
"EU money lost for section near Novo Mesto": Construction works will begin today on a major north-south expressway dubbed the Third Development Axis in the northern Koroška region. In the south, however, EUR 40 million in EU funds have been lost for the project due to complaints, and will be spent on other projects. (front page, 8)

Covid-19
"Parents will not need PCT for kindergarten after all": Although Education Ministry State Secretary Damir Orehovec said on Friday that parents taking their children to kindergarten would not need to meet the recovered-vaccinated-tested (PCT) rule, a government decree issued that day said otherwise. A few hours later, the decree was amended. (front page, 3)

Slovenian team at Summer Paralympics
"Seven Slovenian athletes competing for medals at Paralympics": Archer Dejan Fabčič will carry the Slovenian flag at the opening ceremony of the Summer Paralympics in Tokyo today. Seven Slovenian athletes will compete. (front page)

"Slovenia's population shrinking at a record rate": Last year was the most tragic year in Slovenia's post-war history in terms of the number of deaths. And another, fourth wave of the epidemic is coming. (front page, 2, commentary 12)

Afghanistan
"31 August at the mercy of Taliban and the West": The G7 group will hold a video session today, discussing the possibility of extending the operation in Kabul, where foreign soldiers are protecting the evacuation from Afghanistan. The Taliban oppose this. (front page, 6)

Supply problems
"Endless orders, but no supply": Slovenian companies could increase their production given the demand for various products but this is not possible because of problems with supply. The situation is similar all around Europe. (front page, 2-4)

Levies on e-bicycles
"EUR 882 in levies on a bike from China worth EUR 700": The Financial Administration warns that the price of electric bicycles ordered from China, even if they are ordered by parts, can more than double due to customs and other levies. (front page, 6-7)

Energy
"Why is French electricity cleaner and cheaper than German": A comparison between French and German greenhouse gas emissions shows how important is nuclear energy for decarbonisation. In France, which produces most of electricity in nuclear power plants, the greenhouse gas emissions per unit of electricity production were 10-32% of Germany's emissions between 1990 and 2019.
