Housing
"After fall, rents back at pre-crisis levels": Housing rental prices in the EU are 15% above 2010 levels on average as housing prices rose by 30% in the same period. Real estate is also a popular investment among Slovenians, but an increasing number would buy only if the property was then managed and rented out by a real estate agency. (front page, page 3)

EU presidency
"Next in line": While it is too early to talk about in detail what will be in focus of France's presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of next year, France will adapt its plans to Slovenia's successes while following the major themes from the strategic plan set out by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in 2019. (front page, page 6)

Tokyo Olympics
"Spain on their knees, for semis vs Germany": The list of basketball teams defeated by Slovenia is getting ever longer with no end in sight. They will try to extend the streak tonight by beating Germany for a spot in the semifinals of the Olympic tournament. (front page, page 11)

Financial fallout from Covid-19
"We saved money 'preventively' during crisis": The Covid-19 pandemic has brought a crisis different from any one seen so far. The latest report by Boston Consulting Group has shown some groups of population getting unexpectedly rich. (front page, page 4)

Earthquake-resistant construction
"Money for at least a few pilot projects": The Ljubljana city authorities have obviously managed to convince the Environment Ministry to secure at least a few million euros for projects to enhance the seismic resistance of multi-apartment buildings. (front page, page 6)

Tokyo Olympics
"Slovenia also beat Spain, for semis with Germany tomorrow": After defeating Argentina and Japan, Slovenia's basketball team also beat world champions Spain at the Tokyo Olympic Games. (front page, page 13)

Municipal subsidies
"Where to get aid for investment, self-employment, tourism": More than 50 local governments are currently offering various incentives for businesses. (front page, pages 12, 13)

Eurozone GDP growth
"How did major Slovenian export markets do": The eurozone exited recession in the second quarter of the year with first estimates showing a 2% quarter-on-quarter increase in the average GDP. The paper focuses on Slovenia's main export markets, Germany, Italy, Austria and France. (front page, pages 2, 3)

Business results
"How was business doing for Krka and Telekom": Pharma company Krka posted record half-year results as sales revenue was up by 1% from the same period last year to EUR 808.6 million and net profit was up 11% to EUR 177.4 million. Meanwhile, Telekom Slovenije saw its sales revenue fall by about 1% to EUR 317.6 million. (front page, pages 4, 5)

Tokyo Olympics
"Slovenia undefeated": Slovenia defeated Spain in the derby of Group C at the Olympic basketball tournament to get an easier opponent in the quarter-finals, Germany, and a large dose of confidence for the closing matches. (front page, page 16)

Religious communities
"What has Janša promised to rabbis?": The Jewish Tribune has reported that Prime Minister Janez Janša has promised lifting the ban on ritual slaughter and male circumcision for non-therapeutic reasons at an annual conference of French rabbis in Strasbourg. (front page, page 3)

Bike rental
"Where can you rent a bike?": Unlike most major Slovenian towns, Maribor currently does not offer the locals or visitors the option to rent a bike. (front page, page 4)
