Judiciary
"The principle of separation of powers is impaired": The judicial and prosecution councils warn about the undermining of the rule of law and politicisation of judiciary with experts noting that the principle of separation of powers has been weakened. (front page, page 2)

Coronavirus
"EUR 12 for rapid test": The end of mass testing is approaching as the government has made it clear that those who have not been vaccinated will have to pay for rapid tests themselves from 23 August. (front page, page 4)

Tokyo Olympics
"The hottest games": The Tokyo Olympics organisers face many problems ahead of the start of the Games and not all of them are related to Covid-19. (front page, page 6)

Road rules
"Lower fines for 'the wild ones' in urban areas": The new road traffic act brings lower fines for speeding in urban areas, however fines have been beefed up for using a hand-held phone while driving. The use of e-scooters is now regulated. (front page, page 10, commentary 12)

Rule of law
"The latest Rule of Law Report points to some improvements in Slovenian judiciary, but warns about threats against journalists, the STA's situation and non-appointment of European delegated prosecutors. (front page, page 6)

FINANCE

Energy
"TEŠ6 is done for completely, how much will this cost?": The TEŠ 6 thermal power station will have to close down soon, which will result in high costs. New units, whatever they will be, will also step up costs. Unofficially, the cost of closure could climb up to hundreds of millions of euro. (front page, page 4)

State aid
"Incentives that are or will be available to companies shortly": EUR 30 million in one-off aid is in store for certain companies in tourism such as city hotels. The paper lists other incentives that are not related to Covid-19, including those boosting investments and increasing competitiveness. (front page, pages 2, 3)

"Slovenia placed on the EU's blacklist": Warnings coming from Brussels about the situation of the rule of law and media in Slovenia are a serious signal indicating that the country will have to decide on the way forward. (front page, page 2)

Covid benefits
"Benefits worth EUR 137 million": EUR 137 million in Covid benefits were allocated during the first epidemic wave with doctors and pharmacists getting the highest sums. The differences in the amounts distributed are large with many getting nothing. (front page, page 5)
