First canopy walkway opens in Slovenia

Zreče, 20 September - Slovenia got its first canopy walkway on Friday, a wooden walkway leading through the spruce forest in the ski resort of Rogla. The walkway is some 500 metres long and comes up to 20 metres off the ground, leading to a round wooden tower, 37 metres high.

The features are to be upgraded regularly, with one of the first additions planned being a 40-metre slide, which is to be built in the spring, and will allow visitors to slide from the top of the tower.

The walkway does not contain any hurdles and is thus designed for families with strollers, the disabled and the elderly.

Bearing a price tag of EUR 4.5 million, this is the ninth canopy walk built by the investor, the German Erlebniss Akademie, in the EU.

The ground was broken in May, when Erlebniss Akademie, the Municipality of Zreče, which owns the land, and Unitur, the operator of Rogla ski lifts, said the canopy walk would open in August.

Despite the delay and the fact that the summer season is over, they believe that the walkway will attract many visitors, expecting 200,000 a year. It will be open all days of the year, except Christmas Day and a few days in late autumn, when annual repairs will be carried out.

Adult tickets cost EUR 10 apiece, while family tickets cost EUR 25.
