Planica Officially a Candidate for 2017 Nordic World Champs

Ljubljana, 3 May (STA) - Planica, Slovenia's world-famous ski jumping venue, has officially become a candidate for the Nordic World Championships in 2017 after the International Ski federation (FIS) confirmed its bid as appropriate, the Slovenian Ski Association said on Thursday.

Planica will be vying to organise the event along with Zakopane (Poland), Lahti (Finland) and Oberstdorf (Germany).

The decision will be made at the 31 May FIS congress, where the candidates will present the individual sections of their bids (ski jumping, cross-country and Nordic combined).

Slovenia's presentation will be headlined by retired cross-country star Petra Majdič and ski jumper Franci Petek.
