Having three relatively equal candidates for party president is very uncommon in Slovenia, but is encouraging for the development of inner party democracy, Delo says.
However, this also poses a problem for SD members and the 2 June congress of the party will surely see a second round of elections, projects the commentary "On the Crossroad".
According to the daily, the dilemmas include the defeat in the last election, after which the party president may be expected to leave, and reoccurring rifts between Pahor and the rest of the party.
On the other hand, SD vice-president Patrick Vlačič is the most bland of the three candidates, while the party's long-time ideologist Igor Lukšič is seen by many as lacking charisma, but he does know best what is happening with the left around Europe, Delo says.
