Pahor Paying Informal Visit to Bosnian PM Spiric

Banja Luka, 27 July (STA) - Prime Minister Borut Pahor will call on his Bosnian counterpart Nikola Spiric on Tuesday evening as part of what Pahor's office termed "a private and friendly visit". Following a working dinner tonight, the pair will discuss ways to improve bilateral cooperation, economic ties in particular on Wednesday.

The visit is a continuation of the dialogue established during Pahor's visit to Bosnia at the beginning of March and at the Western Balkans conference in Slovenia at the end of March.

Pahor will meet Spiric only days ahead of a meeting with his Croatian counterpart Jadranka Kosor on 31 July in Slovenia, when the pair is to debate the last remaining major open issue between the two countries - the Zagreb subsidiary of the defunct LB bank and its clients.

The issue remains open also with Bosnia-Herzegovina. At the meeting with Kosor on 10 July in Croatia, Pahor announced he would discuss the LB debt with Bosnian, Serbian and Macedonian representatives by the end of the month.

Slovenian Foreign Minister Samuel Zbogar discussed the issue with his Bosnian counterpart Sven Alkalaj in Slovenia on 5 July, but the pair failed to find common ground.

Another topical issue is the status of Bosnian migrant workers in Slovenia. Dozens of Bosnian workers owed money by their former employers gathered last week in Sarajevo for a peaceful protest requesting from Slovenia to allow them to come back to the country and try to collect the money.

According to the Slovenian Ministry of Labour, Family and Social Affairs, Slovenia and Bosnia are finalising talks on an agreement aimed at preventing the abuse of Bosnian workers in Slovenia. The next round of talks is expected in September.
