Hudorovac, who was nominated by a group of voters, won 30 votes, while the candidate of a local Roma association Bruno Brajdic garnered 18 votes, Andrej Struna of the National Electoral Commission told STA after the polls closed.
While 41 voters were registered in a special electoral roll of the Roma community in Grosuplje, Roma who are at least 18 and were registered as permanent residents of Grosuplje could enter their names subsequently.
Grosuplje was the last of the 20 Slovenian municipalities to secure the Roma a seat on the local council in line with the legislation adopted prior to the 2002 local elections.
The municipality resisted plans to hold an election for the Roma, even after the Constitutional Court ordered it to do so. To end the deadlock, the National Assembly amended the local government law last year, enabling the National Electoral Commission to call the election instead.
