Slovenian, Hungarian Govts Holding 2nd Joint Session Today

Keszthely, 27 November (STA) - The Slovenian and Hungarian governments will hold their second joint session on Friday. Meeting in Hungary's Keszthely, the countries' delegations led by the prime ministers Borut Pahor and Gordon Bajnai are expected to focus on bilateral matters, such as the protection of minorities and cooperation.

The meeting will debate ways of boosting cooperation in several areas, ranging from defence to economy, transport, energy and agriculture, and the fight against the consequences of the global crisis.

The countries are also expected to discuss cooperation within the EU, with Slovenia presenting its experience with the euro. They are to sign a number of bilateral agreements, while the prime ministers will issue a joint statement.

The meeting will also be an opportunity to take stock of the realisation of conclusions of the cabinets' first joint session, held on 17 October 2007.

The relations between the two neighbours are good, however several issues remain open regarding the status of the minorities, including the representation of the Slovenian community in the Hungarian National Assembly.
