Survey: Govt Approval Rating Improves, SD Takes Lead

Ljubljana, 22 November (STA) - The Borut Pahor government is perceived as doing a good job by 39% of those polled in the latest Vox populi survey, which is an improvement over the October survey (32.2%), private broadcster POP TV said on Sunday. The ruling Social Democrats meanwhile overtook the opposition Democrats (SDS).

The regular survey carried out by pollster Ninamedia for daily Dnevnik and POP TV sees the disapproval rating for the government at 54.9%, an improvement over the last month, when it hit a record low.

Most of the people polled said they would vote for the SD (22.5%), which is followed by the SDS (21.5%).

The two biggest parties are ahead of other parties by a wide margin, with the third most supported being the opposition National Party (SNS) with 8.5%.

The SNS is followed by the coalition Liberal Democrats (LDS) with 4.7%, Zares (4.6%), DeSUS (4.5%) and the opposition People's Party (SLS; 3.2%).

The trio of the most popular politician has not changed. The popularity list is headed by President Danilo Tuerk, followed by Economy Minister Matej Lahovnik and European Commissioner Janez Potocnik.
