The Spanski borci (Spanish Freedom Fighters) arts centre is the most recent addition to Ljubljana's urban culture, and comes after the long-dead cinema hall of Kino Siska was refurbished and inaugurated as a cultural centre in late August this year.
The City of Ljubljana's EUR 250,000 investment into Spanski borci allowed the run-down cellar of the building to be transformed into a 50-seat hall and a dance studio, while other parts of the centre have also been spruced up. The centre expects over 40,000 visitors annually.
The launch of the centre will be marked by 30 hours of free events ranging from classical music to contemporary dance produced by the En-Knap institute, the organisation chosen to run the place at a public tender, and 22 other organisation which will also be contributing their own works to the centre.
The 30-hour marathon starts on Friday and will include the renowned jazz and pop music choir, Perpetuum Jazzile, and a collage of over 40 Slovenian choreographers and dancers presenting short pieces of their work.
