The Slovenian telecoms watchdog stated in Wednesday's press release that POP TV had failed to protect children and the youth against explicit scenes of sex and violence in the Celebrity Farm and had thus violated the media legislation.
For this reason, the Agency for Post and Electronic Communication (APEK) demands that the show is equipped with parental guidance warnings that the programme is unfit for children under 15, especially since the show is screened in prime time.
Since violent and sexual scenes come up repeatedly in the show, the broadcaster should pay special attention to the protection of its under-aged viewers, the agency noted.
POP TV now has one month to deal with the irregularity. If the violation continues, APEK can temporarily or permanently annul the broadcaster's licence.
APEK said in the press release that scenes of violence came up in two episodes of the Celebrity Farm, while further two contained sexual scenes.
Also disturbing are frequent use of swearwords, verbal abuse, explicit scenes of intimate relations and nudity as well as smoking and alcohol abuse, APEK said.
Also critical of the show has been public broadcaster RTV Slovenija, which on 6 November urged APEK and the Culture and Media Heritage Inspectorate to react.
RTV Slovenija also condemned a decision by the Ljubljana District Court, which rejected a motion by two fathers demanding that the show be broadcast at a later time.
According to RTV Slovenija, some 20,000 children children under the age of ten watch TV between 8 PM and 10 PM, when the show is screened.
"Kmetija slavnih" is a reality show currently running on POP TV, in which a group of people, mostly celebrities, live together on a remote farm with no electricity, heating or running water.
