Delo Says Slovenia and Croatia Returning to Common Sense

Ljubljana, 12 September (STA) - Daily Delo says in the front-page commentary on Saturday that what Slovenian Prime Minister Borut Pahor and his Croatian counterpart Jadranka Kosor did on Friday, striking a deal under which Slovenia will lift its blockade of Croatia's EU accession, is a return to common sense.

However, says the daily, not the entire political arena in Slovenia understands this deal as such.

Radical populists and nationalists, who see populist manipulations and raising tensions as the only purpose of their existence, have come into their own again and are already announcing referendums.

It seems that the ruling coalition is determined to support its government, but the fate of the common sense is in the hands of the biggest opposition party, the Democrats (SDS).

According to Delo, the party has still not decided whether to endorse the deal, while their decision will be of key importance for its validity.
