According to the Slovenian Basketball Association, head coach Jure Zdovc on Monday decided to cut the number of players competing for the final roster from 16 to 14. A total of 12 players will make the team.
Because of a lengthy absence from the training camp owing to a knee injury, Vujacic has failed to catch up with the rest of team-mates and regain his form, the association said.
Both Vujacic and the caching staff did everything to ensure that he could return from injury to play at this year's European championships, Zdovc said in a statement.
"Unfortunately, all our efforts have been hindered by his injury, because of which I assessed that Sasa would not have enough time to properly adjust to our style of play", added Zdovc, thanking him for his effort and wishing him a speedy recovery.
The other victim of roster-trimming ahead of the championship, Miha Zupan, was actually a call-up for the preparation games in Croatia's Porec and Spain's Seville as the team had an open power-forward spot.
Slovenia has a 5:4 record in the games leading up to the Eurobasket tournament. The team has four more friendly games to play before going to Poland - against Bulgaria on 28 August and Greece on 30 August (both in Maribor) - and two games against Germany on 2 and 3 September in Bonn and Karlsruhe.
