Defence Committee Wraps Up Visit to Troops in Kosovo

Prishtina/Pec, 10 December (STA) - Members of the parliamentary Defence Committee wrapped up on Thursday a two-day visit to Kosovo in which they met Slovenian soldiers serving there as part of an international mission, wishing them happy holidays and praising them for their work.

The head of the committee, Jozef Jerovsek, told STA that the MPs first visited Slovenian soldiers in Prishtina on Wednesday, and then met today the majority of the 386-strong Slovenian contingent in the Villagio Italia base in Pec.

"We were acquainted with their activities and got a complete picture of the operation of our soldiers in Kosovo," Jerovsek said.

The committee also met Italian Brig-Gen Roberto D'Alessandro, deputy commander of the EU-led forces in the country. "As always, our soldiers received numerous praises, because they are doing an excellent job here in Kosovo," Jerovsek said.

The deputies also discussed with the soldiers the recent suicide among their ranks. "Both soldiers and commanders assured us that they had thoroughly reviewed the case," Jerovsek added.

The committee will meet in Ljubljana on Friday to discuss the plans on Slovenia's aid to the local security forces in Kosovo, make the strategic review of the defence sector, and discuss the strategy of Slovenia's participation in international operations and missions.
